Type 3 NEMA enclosures are undamaged by the external formation of ice on enclosure.
 
   Type 3R
 
     Type 3R NEMA enclosures are designed for indoor or outdoor use. They protect personnel against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment and protect the enclosed equipment from falling dirt, rain, sleet, and snow. These enclosures are undamaged by the external formation of ice.
 
   Type 3S
 
     Type 3S NEMA enclosures are designed for indoor or outdoor use.    Type 4

They protect personnel against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment and protect the enclosed equipment from falling dirt, rain, sleet, snow, windblown dust, splashing water, hose-direct water, and corrosion. They protect personnel against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment and protect the enclosed equipment from falling dirt and against hose-directed water and the entry of water during prolonged submersion at a limited depth. These enclosures are undamaged by the external formation of ice.

   Type 13

   Polycarbonate
 
     Polycarbonate is an amorphous material with excellent impact strength, clarity, and optical properties. Polycarbonate has excellent mechanical properties and can be molded to tight tolerances. Solvents and petrochemicals attack polycarbonate; its weatherability is only adequate. Common brand names include: Caliber® (Dow), Lexan® (GE), Makrofol® and Makrolon® (Bayer).
 
   ABS
 
     Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) is a hard, rigid, thermoplastic polymer. It provides good chemical and creep resistance, and dimensional stability. ABS is used in many industries and in a wide array of applications. It is generally inexpensive, but prone to cracking under stress. Common trade names include Cycolac® (GE Plastics), Lustran® (Bayer) and Novodur® (Bayer).
 
   Polystyrene
 
     Polystyrene is a thermoplastic known for its rigidity, hardness, heat and dimensional stability as well as for ease of fabrication.
