Bore
The bearing industry uses a standard numbering system for bearings with metric-diameter bores. If the bore is hexagonal, enter the dimension across the flats. If the bore is tapered, enter the smaller diameter. For bore sizes 04 and up, multiply the bore size by 5 to identify the bore diameter in millimeters (mm). Refer to the table below.

Seals / Shielding:

Seals and shields provide protection from contamination and as a retainer for lubricant. Seals provide better protection and lubricant containment than shields, but have lower maximum speed capabilities.

Ceramic Hybrid (ceramic balls)
A ceramic hybrid bearing is constructed of steel inner and outer rings with ceramic (typically Si3N4) balls in place of steel. These bearings have several advantages over all steel bearings, such as higher speed and acceleration capability, increased stiffness, higher accuracy, lower friction and heat generation, reduced lubrication requirements, low thermal expansion, extended operating life. Bearings containing all ceramic balls are also nonconductive and are commonly used in electric motor applications.

One Directional Thrust Courtesy of Timken Super Precision

Tolerates some misalignment. Same radial load as deep-groove bearings, but 2-3 times the thrust load.
| |
Double Direction Thrust
Double direction angular contact thrust ball bearings are double row bearings constructed with uniquely designed inner and outer rings. These bearings accommodate thrust loads from either direction. In contrast to other angular contact bearings they have steep contact angles, typically 60°.

Double row angular contact ball bearings have two rows of balls in a single inner and outer ring.
| |
Double Row Maximum Capacity Angular
Double row angular contact ball bearings have two rows of balls in a single inner and outer ring. These bearings are similar to double row angular contact bearings, except that they are of the maximum capacity (filling slot) variety. The higher number of balls results in much higher load carrying capacity.
| |
Duplex Thrust
Two match-ground one-directional thrust bearings used as a set. They are typically used for two-directional thrust loads or very high one-directional thrust loads. Three duplex mounting arrangements are possible:
| |
Four Point Contact
Single row angular contact bearings designed such that the ball has four contact points, two with the outer race and two with the inner race. Four-point contact ball bearings carry radial and axial loads, as well as moment loads in a relatively small space; however, they are intended mainly for axial loads.

Thin-section
Thin-section bearings have small cross-sections with respect to their diameter. They are designed to save space, lower the weight of a design, and reduce friction. Some thin-section bearings are also referred to as torque tube bearings.

Ball Screw Support
These bearings are specially designed for use in ball screw or lead screw applications. Most ball screw support bearings are angular contact bearings with a steep contact angle, such as 60°, and are available in duplex, triplex and quadruplex configurations. Other designs include bearings containing separate thrust and radial roller bearings in a single assembly. Cartridge designs are also available that include a housing, seals, and bearings.
