Carrying Cases and Equipment Cases

Carrying cases and equipment cases protect contents from impact, shock, vibration, rain, sunlight, and dust. Exterior case materials range from paper, fabric, and fiberglass to aluminum, steel, and stainless steel. Cases made from durable, molded plastic and thermoplastic materials are also available. Foam-lined, custom, and specialty interiors provide additional protection, especially for sensitive instrumentation and laboratory equipment. Carrying cases and equipment cases are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. Some portable cases include handles that retract or wheels that swivel. Others contain an integral stand or legs that fold or hide during transportation and storage. Carrying cases and equipment cases with integral ramps facilitate the loading and unloading of heavy equipment.  

Carrying cases and equipment cases include basic features such as locks as well as a variety of special features and options. Some cases include an inner panel for mounting 19” rack components or electronic devices such as telecommunications equipment. Others are ventilated or use an integral fan to circulate the air. Carrying cases and equipment cases can also provide protection against electrostatic discharge, electromagnetic interference (EMI), radio frequency interference (RFI), and shock. Humidity-controlled carrying cases and equipment cases include integral instrumentation that monitors humidity levels. Seals provide protection against airborne contaminants. When selecting carrying cases and equipment, a careful analysis of application requirements is important. 

There are a variety of applications for carrying cases and equipment cases. Some are suitable for aerospace applications or meet requirements established by the Airline Transportation Association (ATA). Others are suitable for maritime and marine applications or meet U.S. military specifications (MIL-SPEC). Carrying cases and equipment cases are used to transport audio, video, and photography equipment. They are also used to ship pharmaceutical and medical equipment, fluids, and related materials; computers, computer peripherals, and laptops; instruments, tools, and equipment; and consumer electronics such as personal digital assistants (PDAs). Personnel who travel to trade shows use carrying cases and equipment cases made from a variety of materials and designed to meet a wide range of purposes.
