About Ball Transfers and Ball Transfer Units
Ball transfers are industrial conveyors that use fixed balls to transport products and materials by rolling instead of using a moving belt or chain. Ball transfer units are ball transfer components that consist of a large, load-bearing ball which sits atop smaller balls inside of a hemispherical cup. Both ball transfers and ball transfer units are designed for industrial and commercial applications that require the transportation of bulk materials, boxes packages, or parts in a predetermined path, and that have fixed or selective points for loading and discharging. Some suppliers refer to ball transfers as ball transfer tables, ball transfer conveyors, or ball transfer systems. In some cases, the terms "ball transfers" and "ball transfer units" are used interchangeably. Often, suppliers provide both types of products.
Ball transfers are usually made of steel, carbon steel, or stainless steel. Product specifications include height, width, and loading capacity. The number of ball transfer units per ball transfer table is also important consideration. Most ball transfer units are made of steel, stainless steel, carbon, or nylon. Steel ball transfer units consist of ferrous metals or alloys that are strengthened for heavy-duty applications. Ball transfer units that are made of carbon steel are often case-hardened or treated with a black oxide finish. Stainless steel ball transfer units are corrosion-resistant and washdown-capable. Sealed systems are often used in food processing applications. Nylon ball transfer units are used to prevent damage to relatively soft products.
